Tales of America's Founding Mothers
Most of us have heard of America's Founding Fathers. But what about all the women who were around at the birth of our nation? In this issue of APPLESEEDS readers will meet many amazing women who are remembered for their courage, cunning, and creativity. These women solved problems men couldn't and helped forge our nation. They were spies and soldiers, boycotters and horse riders, farmers, poets and slaves. Meet Eliza Pinkney, who grew indigo where others said it wouldn't grow, and in doing so helped her colony become economically independent. Meet Angela, an enslaved African girl, brought to our shores against her will to work on a tobacco plantation. Meet the Daughters of Liberty and many other women who stood up to the British when their husbands wouldn't. Without these 'founding mothers,' our nation might not have become what it is today.
