MAGNA CARTA
Travel with us to England to learn more about the historic agreement between King John I and his barons. Little did both sides know that the document to which King John put his seal would affect a country about which he had never heard. John was not too keen on the charter known now as the Magna Carta, but his successors kept it in force -- at least for a while. Read about the copies that remain today and how these copies were made. Join the festivities at Runnymede today as the English celebrate Magna Carta Day. Then return across the Atlantic to discover the many ways in which the Magna Carta influenced the framers of our Constitution. Then turn to our special section, which we did jointly with the Getty Museum. Here you'll learn the technique of making parchment, quill pens, and colored inks. Be sure not to miss this "royal" issue.
