THE FRENCH REVOLUTION
The year is 1789. The American Revolution is not a subject for historians, but there's another revolution that is just beginning - in France. The halls of the royal palace are abuzz with stories - some true, some false - about the Oath of the Tennis Court. Just weeks later, a group of French people storm the great prison in Paris - the Bastille. The king will have no more of it and tries to sneak out of the country. His plan fails, and he's caught and thrown in prison, along with other royals. The revolution spreads; so, too, does the violence. Who's right? Who's wrong? Even the revolution's leaders do not agree - and some lose their heads, just like the king, to the infamous guillotine. As the English writer put it, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times!" Moreover, it was times that you won't want to miss. So, bring a notepad and a pen to take notes - but keep your opinion to yourself until you finish the issue. Then, from the safety of history, you can let all know whose side you would have supported!
