CALLIOPE travels to a time period earlier than any the magazine has ever entered! Join us as we explore the prehistoric sites of Africa, especially East Africa and South Africa. Our guides are anthropologists, archaeologists, and paleontologists who are on-site trying to understand the meaning of the artifacts that have been uncovered in the past 50 years. We read about new finds that are beginning to tell their own fascinating story. We also learn what recovered bones and teeth can tell us about the prehistoric beings. "From Past to Present" introduces us to Australia's aborigines. We meet a professor who travels to Australia to study their customs and culture. From him we learn how such studies can help us to understand those who live more than a million years ago. There are still many unanswered questions and we find out that there are some facts we will probably never be able to know for sure.
