WELLS-BARNETT, IDA B.

Ida B. Wells-Barnett was an African American and a woman at a time in American history when both groups were struggling for equal rights and fair treatment. But having two strikes against her did not stop Wells-Barnett. She became a journalist and spent most of her life using her writings to protest the unfair treatment of blacks. She was particularly outraged by the lynchings of innocent people. In this issue, we will follow the life of this extraordinary African American, from her beginnings as the daughter of slaves, to threats made on her life for her outspoken editorials, to her rise to prominence in Chicago society.
