SQUANTO & SAMOSET
In this issue of COBBLESTONE, we have articles that discuss the first contact between Native Americans and Europeans along the North American coast, the first meetings of Samoset and Squanto with the Pilgrims, and a comparison of these two diverse cultures and the friendship that succeeded in spite of their differences. For the Pilgrims, the first fifty years were peaceful ones with their Wampanoag Indian neighbors, and we focus on this remarkable period in early European settlement and the individuals who made it possible. We also explain how the two cultures were able to communicate, and there is an activity that provides information on the role of corn in the diet of early North American residents.
