NAACP

In the decades between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, a group of Americans concerned over the unequal status and treatment of African Americans issued a call to Americans to fight for civil and political liberties. The seed was planted for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), one of the largest and most influential civil rights organizations in the United States. The February issue will look at both the history of this organization - from a time line of major events, to a look at its efforts to make changes through the court system, to articles on famous members and their different roles. There also is an interview with NAACP chairman Julian Bond.
