LITERARY LADIES-1800S

In this issue, we have tried to provide a broad spectrum of American literary ladies of the nineteenth century - women who made writing their profession and proved that women could successfully write about diverse matters. We start with a dip into the eighteenth century to meet two of the earliest women authors. Following that, we meet editors, journalists, social commentators, philosophical thinkers, Civil War authors, writers about the West, and New England writers of the nineteenth century. Writers included in this issue are Harriet Beecher Stowe, Margaret Fuller, Sarah Josepha Hale, Helen Hunt Jackson, Ida Tarbell, and Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
