HISTORY OF ALASKA

In this issue, we explore the 49th state's history and present as America's last wilderness. There are articles on the original inhabitants of Alaska, the territory's Russian history, the thinking behind the Alaskan pipeline, the building of the Alaskan Highway, the role that its diverse raw materials had on the growth of cities, and a look at Alaska today and how it will be able to juggle respecting the history and presence of native Alaskans while maintaining economic growth. Of course, we also mention the Valdez oil spill and conservation efforts and there is an article on a Jr. Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
