CARROLL, CHARLES OF CARROLLTON
Like so many of America's Revolutionary War patriots, Charles Carroll was born for the important role he played in securing the colonies' freedom. Carroll was a member of the wealthiest family in Maryland. As a signer of the Declaration of Independence - and the only Roman Catholic man to do so - Carroll risked the loss of his life, family, and enormous fortune. But he firmly believed in the cause of the colonists. This issue includes articles on colonial Maryland, Carroll's early years, and a look at other famous Carrolls. There also are articles on his role during the Revolution, his final years, and a look at both the Charles Carroll House and a photographic tour of the historic city of Annapolis, which was, among other things, home to Charles Carroll of Carrollton.
