LEWIS AND CLARK
In the spring of 1804, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and the men under their command left St. Louis, Missouri, to begin an incredible journey to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Territory. Their trip would take them overland by boat, foot, and horse to the Pacific Ocean. In this issue of COBBLESTONE, we commemorate the bicentennial of the Corps of Discovery by looking at the remarkable and diverse members of the corps - Lewis, Clark, York, Sacagawea, Seaman - and the people and things they came in contact with - about 50 different Native American tribes, various animals and plants, a constantly changing geographic landscape. This issue explores the importance of leadership, friendship, and diplomacy and offers suggestions for why and how we remember this expedition and its members and what their legacies are.
