INVENTIONS OF THE 1800S
A list of the most famous inventions of the 1800s includes: camera, dish washer, reaper, sleeper car, phonograph, telegraph, elevator, light bulb, vulcanized rubber, steamship, and sewing machine. These inventions, or improvements on these inventions, continue to have an impact on our lives today. In this issue, we take a broad view of the 19th century and review some of the major inventions in various industries, such as transportation, recreation, home use, and ommunication. We also are introduced to the excitement and air of innovation associated with the World Expositions (specifically the two that took place in the United States in the 1800s). You'll meet some little-known inventors and maybe even a famous inventor of the 21st century.
