RIGHTS OF THE CHILD
All of us, regardless of where we live, what religion we practice, or what sex we are, are born with human rights. Children must depend on the adults around them to protect their rights. Unfortunately, the rights of children around the world are violated every day. Poverty prevents millions of children from receiving the health care, education, and nourishment they need to survive and thrive. Although poverty is a terrible problem, not all children's rights violations occur in poor countries. Every day many children who live in wealthy countries are abused or forced to live on the streets. This issues addresses the rights of children everywhere - how they are being violated and what is being done to protect them. Articles include pieces on child labor, educating Afghanistan's girls, the Special Olympics, and the effort to wipe out polio worldwide.
