CORDILLERA REGION OF CANADA

The word "cordillera" means a large chain of mountains or mountain ranges, usually the continent's most dominant. North America's Cordillera region is in the western portion of the continent and includes the Rocky Mountains. This issue deals specifically with the Cordillera region of Canada, which includes portions of British Columbia and Alberta and the Yukon and Northwest territories. Life in this region is greatly affected by its geographic features. Much of the northern area, where the highest and most rugged peaks are found, is unpopulated. As a result, much of the north remains unspoiled. Most people of the Canada's Cordillera live on the coast or in valleys of British Columbia and Alberta, where the climate is milder and more predictable.
