Founded on November 16, 1945, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) encourages the world's nations to work together to come up with solutions to today's problems, such as illiteracy and poverty. Once of its most well known programs is its World Heritage List, cultural and historical sites that receive government protection.
