BOSNIA
Before 1992, the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina lived in relative peace. Bosnians were proud of their diverse population. Bosnian-Muslims, Bosnian-Serbs, and Bosnian-Croats lived side-by-side, worked together, and even married one another. But the break up of Communist Yugoslavia changed life in Bosnia. After many Bosnians voted to break away from Yugoslavia, a bloody and devastating war erupted. For three years, people who had once been neighbors fought each other. This issue will explore the rebuilding of Bosnia. Discover how life has changed for the people who left Bosnia and those who stayed. You will also meet an American woman living in Bosnia who works for an organization helping the country recover from its years of turmoil. A brief history of Bosnia is also included in this issue, as well as a recipe for a delicious dessert.
