MILLENNIUM COUNTDOWN

A realistic look at this milestone in time. Despite the media hype, January 1, 2000 will be just another day. The Earth will have reached another point in its orbit. Our spirit will leap, but technology won't. Major technological advances do not necessarily start at the tic mark of the millennium - they evolve in leaps and starts. This issue will take a look back at the turn of the 20th century and consider how and when its greatest scientific achievements unfolded. It will also take a look at how science will likely evolve through the early, middle, and late years of the 21st century.
