TAHARQO, NUBIAN KING OF EGYPT
Mention ancient Egypt and images of pyramids, pharaohs, and gold masks and coffins come right to mind. But, the Egyptians did not rule themselves. Join us in October as we travel south of Egypt to Nubia to meet King Taharqo. March north with him as he extends, and then extends again the boundaries of his rule into Egypt and beyond. Check out his arch rival, the Assyrian Esarhaddon, and find out which Assyrian was Taharqo's downfall. Then, travel about a bit in Nubia and be awed by the magnificent structures, statues, and gold items the Nubian artisans crafted. Contrast what remains today with the drawings of a daring, but little known 1800s French traveler. Don't hesitate - the trip will certainly be one you will never forget.
