CLARK, GEORGE ROGERS: REVOLUTIONARY WAR IN THE WEST
Didn't know that the American Revolutionary War was fought in the West? Then you'll definitely want to pick up this issue. Clark, the older brother of William Clark (of the famous Lewis and Clark team), put the family name in the history books first. George was a frontiersman and surveyor in present-day Kentucky in the years just before the outbreak of the Revolution. When the war for independence began, he led a small group of militia against British-held forts along the western frontier, and won control of strategic sites with few casualties. Thanks to Clark and his leadership, the western territory was preserved for American expansion.
