Questions: - Ask students why people refer to Mount Everest as a sacred home of the gods.
- Ask them to name a few items made of copper.
- After reading the article "Space-Age Geographers," have students identify the specific benefits of satellite information (location of new lakes, mountains, mineral deposits, oil and natural gas deposits, help in urban planning, man-made changes, etc.).
Hands-On - With your class, do the activity on page 29, then enjoy the apple snack!
- Test comprehension with the brain teaser on page 30.
Languages Arts
Make available other creation myths from around the world (hopefully your library will have some books) and ask students to compare the various myths. Students could also act out the Guatemalan tale, or write a short essay about which one they like best and why.
