GEOGRAPHY

Make a transparency of the "World of Ramesses the Great" map p.3 and one of a current map of Egypt. Discuss each map, compare and contrast the maps, predict what might have happened to change the current map from Ramesses' map.

Divide students into small groups of two or three. Have them recreate either the Ramesses' map or the current map using blue yarn for the water and dark brown for the borders. Use the circle stickers for the towns or cities, label, and color. Map a map legend for the map and post around the classroom.

USING THE FOLLOWING ARTICLES

Divide the class into four groups. Assign a selection of the articles for the groups to read, discuss and summarize. Write a group summary of each article. Put the summaries into a class summary book for each student. Have each group present their articles to the class and discuss the world of Ramesses.

Suggested selections:

Group 1

A Show of Courage p 4-7

Trained to Rule p 8-10

The Importance of Opet p 11

Group 2

A Peace Treaty p 12-13

A Lost City Found p 14-16

Nile Styles p 17-19

Group 3

Grandeur at Abu Simbel p 24-27

Group 4

An Incredible Find p 40-42

So Much to Tell p 43-45

All groups read Ramesses' Legacy p.48-49

Put a question on one index card and its answer on another card. Shuffle so they are not together. Pass out one card to each student. Play music as students walk around the room exchanging cards as they pass each other. When the music is stopped, the students read their cards and then try to match the question to the answer. When everyone is matched, read questions and answers and discuss them.

WHO IS WHO IN RAMESSES WORLD

Put chart paper on the wall for students to list the people found in Ramesses World. Once they list a person on the chart, the student should be prepared to explain who this person is and his/her importance to this time period.

Have students select one of the people off the chart and do more research about the person and write a paragraph about this person. Draw or find a picture of the selected person. Glue to construction paper to frame, post in classroom for a walking gallery.

Play 20 questions. Have students pick a person, then the other students in 20 questions or less must try and guess the person.

WRITE

Have students write a 5-paragraph essay detailing what has been learned about the world of Ramesses the Great.

Put the letters of the alphabet into a container and have the students draw a letter. Have them create a page for an alphabet book on "The World of Ramesses the Great." Put together and place in the school media center or share with a younger grade.
