The Kamakura Shogunate and Who's Who in Japan Society? (Pages 6-8) 1. Why was the Kamakura Shogunate formed? 2. What role did the Hojo family play in creating the shogunate? 3. 1. Create an encyclopedia on Medieval Japan. Assign students jobs as researcher/ writer, editor, artist, etc. Use this issue as the basis for their research. 2. Write a compare and contrast essay on one of the following: ** Buddhism and Christianity, Judaism or Islam ** No Theatre and Western Theatre ** Renga and Lyric poetry 3. Have a haiku poetry writing workshop. Then hold a poetry reading for younger students. 4. Use the artwork in this issue as story starters. 5. Use butcher paper to make an illustrated timeline to go around the room.
