Announcing the Winners of CALLIOPE's "I Can Create" Contest!
In our March 2010 issue on Michelangelo, we asked you to imagine that you have been commissioned to create an artwork for an existing building in your city. We asked you to send in a drawing of your artwork and an explanation of where it would go and what it represents.
We received some terrific entries, and we have chosen three winners:
We received this drawing from Brook S., 12, of Wilmot, NH:

Dear CALLIOPE's "I Can Create" Contest,
Hi! I really like your magazine, especially the issue about Michelangelo. I liked it so much that I decided to enter your contest! Here is my drawing.
This fresco would adorn the Tracy Memorial Library in the center of New London, a neighboring town, which I visit weekly and check out way too many books. My entry represents my love of books and the joy of getting lost in one, which I do often and probably too much.
I chose this theme because I LOVE reading and I like paintings of giant books and/or mythical creatures, so I decided to combine them. I hope this fresco actually gets on the library someday. I think it would look very cool.
Keep up the awesome work!
Yours truly,
Brook
Caroline H., 11, of Valley Lee, MD sent this entry:

My drawing would be put in the fiction section of my library. It represents how exciting the fiction section is. I chose the theme I did because I like to look for new books in the fiction part of the library.
And Tyler H., 12, of Goodlettsville, TN, sent us his artwork:

HEAD PUZZLE
This drawing represents a humanoid machine head. It emphasizes a futuristic theme. I chose this theme Because I have foreseen our world to be a complex place. This drawing should be shown at the Frist Museum in Nashville, Tennessee
Congratulations Brook, Carolyn, and Tyler!
